Wife's First Ride

Took my wife out for her first ride this weekend. Guy at work gave me a full-faced helmet he no longer uses. Just a little ride around the neighborhood, nothing over 25mph.

She said she enjoyed it but didn't have that WOW response I was hoping for . But it was a good, safe ride, and the first time I'd had a pillion. Took a while to get used to how the bike handled a little differently at first.

So what reactions did you husbands get from your wives on their first ride?

I still have the same g/f mentioned in other posts on this forum (not too easy to exchange them...is it) and think may've even covered this before...but hey, new thread, so it'll sound fresh to someone

My g/f spent some of her teen years on a dirtbike trying to keep up with her older brothers which led to some hairy spills. So it was sweet of her to agree to eventually ride on the back. It wasn't quite the fun I was expecting though, she was so terrified when I tried to point out something she'd scream for me to put both my hands on the grips and look ahead. I'm a fairly conservative rider (enjoy my body in one piece and the way it is) so this was a little annoying.

I've tested the waters about her buying her own bike (which be the only way I'd want to have a long term riding partner) but it really doesn't look promising. Plus she freezes at the slightest out of the ordinary occurance, I'm not even sure she'd be good on a bike.......

I really envy these guys like Gummiente and Sapaul who's partners like to ride their own bikes......

Loonette and I both started riding at the same time. She took her MSF course a couple weeks before I did, so she was a rider first. I had to pick her up from the dealership once when she was getting her bike worked on, and she said the ride was OK, but she didn't like not being the one controling the bike. It is funny though, there are some people who are fond of being a pillion - I can imagine it myself.

My wife wasn't scared at all...I had to keep reminding her to hold on tight! It was annoying that her helmet kept bumping into mine whenever I came to a stop though .

That's cause she fell asleep on the back and couldn't brace herself for the stop

Our first date was on a Ninja nearly 16 years ago. She got a dirt bike 13 years ago, a streetbike 12 years ago, a nicer bike than mine last year......

I must have the best of both worlds, The Goose likes to ride the smaller bikes but admits that the K1200S is too much for her. She does like to ride on the back with me and I think it is about trust more than anything. She knows my ability and accepts a certain risk but also knows I am not going to do anything that will endanger her. We also talk about our rides before we do them and agree on some rules.

This is what she likes best.




I will tell you this though, we have had more fun on longer trips two up than we do riding our own bikes. We are friends with another couple who are like minded and we have done thousands of K's together and it is also a fantastic way of treating your woman. Buy her the right gear, pack her pannier for her, man it is all good stuff, you just got to know how to work it.
