How to free seized cylinder?

#1 Unread post by Bax »

I'm playing around with an old Honda C200 engine and found that the cylinder is seized. Really, really seized!

Any ideas on how to free it?

Already tried: Block of wood and hammer.
(After soaking for 2 days with WD-40)

Result: Cylinder is laughing at me and my thumb is sore. :frusty:

Try a penetrating oil. WD40 is formulated to displace water (hence the name). You'll probably have to tear the motor down.

Have you heard of a product called MetalClean or CleanMetal. Someone suggested I try it but I never heard of it and am having trouble finding it.

As for tearing the engine down, that's what I was in the process of doing when I ran into the seized piston/cylinder.

Unfortunately, the head bolts are also seized so I can't separate the engine to attack from the other side. It never rains but it pours.

Thanks for responding. :)

The best thing that I found is a product called Marvel mystery oil. It works great, I used it to free up the cylinders on an old 302 I had a couple of years back. Just pour some in the cylinder, let it soak overnight and then break out the hammer and wood again. Good luck.

Marvel works good, brake fluid is probably the best though. Good luck!
