CRF250R Troubles

#1 Unread post by MotoXMan1390 »

Hey-

I was wondering if there has been any problems with the 2004 CRF250R's going around. My bike seem s to sucking the oil like a drink with no evidence of a leak or no smoke from it being burnt. I was wondering if there were any other bikes that were doing this and if there is how do you fix it.

Engine oil or tranny oil?

Is the tranny oil level going up as the engine oil level goes down?
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

It's the engine oil and I don't think it's going into tranny because we have put enough oil to fill up both in the last two times I have riden it.

Have you pulled the ignition cover off? Could be leaking into there.... but probably not. Here's a scary thought.... looked in the rad yet? A bad headgasket can allow the oil to be pumped into the cooling system.....

One more thing to look at, the tranny is vented to atmosphere and if the engine oil is getting into the tranny, it could easily be blown out the vent hose and under the bike, making it hard to notice.

Clean the livin' snot outta the engine, top and bottom, and then keep an eagle eye on the motor for leaks or for accumulations of dirt sticking to any oil seepage.

If the oil isn't any of those places, and it's not leaking externally, then that pretty much just leaves burning it. The engine doesn't hold much oil and even a slight burning problem can drink it up pretty fast.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
