Building a toolkit

For my dirtbike. Nothing crazy, just a few tools for a fender bag. So far, thinking wrench for spark-plug and spark-plug (i know, my xr is a 4 stroke, but hey, i may flood it... in water), wrench for rear axle, spare chain links, chain link tool, and pliers (fixing connections on headlamp when i crash ).

Of course, i need to get a fender bag thinking this one. Also ordering some stuff my bike needs, carb-rebuild kit, sprockets, chain, brakes, Clymer manual, and oil (5w-30 fow cold running, 10w-40 for summer, full synthetic).

And later on down the road, i need tires, and rebuild the trans. Though depending on how easy it is to find a road bike*, i may be converting the XR to road legality (depending on ME laws).

*deal for the GS700 fell through

My suggestion is to include a small pair of vice grips , some black electical tape and go to your local hardware or electrical store and get your self some kerney nuts (sic) . They are used for making splices on heavy electrical wire . What they will do for you is allow you to fix your clutch cable in an emergency should it ever break on you in the middle of the boonies .

I carry a lighter, a small adjustable wrench, and a handfull of plastic tie wraps too.

And just in case of a real emergency - a cell phone!

Some spare blade fuses, and a couple of bulbs, too - keep a box under my seat with these, absolutely essential!....

Funny...Not shamelessly plugging Sear's here but, they have a mc-specific starter tool kit with just about all of that stuff you're looking for and with things that have been suggested like vice grips and cable ties.

Damn, i wish i saw that when i picked up my motorcycle jack That was on sale for $80, best tool i have for the bike so far, though it's gonna be hard to bring it with me on trips

EDIT: Found it on sears.com... $90 for the kit, a little more than i want to spend on somthing that's going to spend it's life straped to a fender.

I know...shame of it is, it's like a 35 piece kit or something AND they have a 155 piece mechanic set for like $159 or something
