Blank-American
What's up with this nonsense? Asian-American, African-American, Latin-American? Am I the only one that finds this complete rubbish? When was the last time you filled out a form and saw European-American instead of Caucasian? Bah!

Immigrants founded this country. Georgia was an English penal colony until we kicked the Brits out. The south lost the Civil War. The hyphenated-Americans you list are not the enemy, they're your fellow citizens. They're not destroying our country, they're building it. Of all the human derelicts encountered in my 53 years, the vast majority were caucasions of European ancestry. What's destroying this country is political arrogance, economic greed, moral relativism, and cultural blindness....it is just some fancy names to give the people that are destroying the country.

some other slogan besides "immigrants made this country great "needs to be implimented.i have a hard time visualizing the great contributions being realized by the thousands that cross the border every week and bring their 79% birth rate with them.apparently they havent made it far enough north to make an impression.but rest assured they are on the way.

Hell what are you guys whining about? In Canada when they held the last Census (and the ten before that) they always have a question on the form asking what nationality you are. BUT. You can’t put down Canadian, they don’t accept that. Anywhere else in the world and I am a Canadian, in Canada, it just ain’t so. They want to label you as German or Dutch or English, whatever, depending on what nationality your parents were. The really odd part is, my parents were born in Canada and so were their parents. Go figure…

In the beginning, immigration had everything to do with the formation and progressive development of the US and Canada. Today it means freedom of movement for global terrorists and other negative societal elements. We need to change the rules, and FAST, then enforce them.
Times have changed, but the way we handle immigration has not. Change is way overdue. Close the gates.

I don't believe this to be true. Any rich country's local populace is always against mass immigration. Often the belief is immigrants take jobs, use taxpayer dollars, and create an unsafe living condition for the locals. Often this is compounded by foriegn affairs. During WW2 there was a tremendous backlash against all East-Asian immigrants, followed by a backlash against Eastern Europeans, now we're seeing a backlash against west asians or more commonly any one of Middle Eastern descent and those of Hispanic decent.

Slaming the gates shut to keep immigrants out only furthers the disparity between the United States and the rest of the world. Our relations with Western Europe are great because the majority of the early immigrants to this country were of Western European descent and now control the country. We will never be able to have good working relations with the countries we are at odds at without immigrants from those countries living with us.

Things are definitely going your way presently, and with no sign of practically effective restriction of immigration on the horizon, you should have an excellent opportunity to see how things work out.

I think you guys are talking about illegal immigrants. There are plenty in the Northwest, and they are filling all the low-paying agriculture and service jobs that others disdain. They seem to be viewed in much the same manner as my Irish ancestors.
Actually, restrictions on immigration have been around for a long time. The Immigration Act of 1924 established quotas based on a national origins system. Motivation for the Act was to limit immigrants from southern and eastern Europe, as countries in the Western Hemisphere (Mexico, central and south Amercia) were exempt from quotas until 1945. The U.S. processes over 1 million legal permanent residents each year (20% are from Mexico).and with no sign of restriction of immigration on the horizon

Aye, and the Italians were treated the same way as the Irish back in the day.
A few differences, however. Both the Irish and Italians, for the most part, came into the country legally. They worked hard to integrate themselves into the communities and earn respect.
Many immigrants today do the same thing. Problem is, they don't get the same air time as the Illegals (or the advocates for the illegals) They walk into a system which is indifferent to whether or not they work hard, and respect is automatically expected - without being earned.
I think this is all going to be irrelevant soon anyway. If we continue on the path to globalization, national borders are going to be les and less important in the grand scheme of things. The US has once again gotten itself into a position where its greed has led it down a very dangerous path of self destruction.
