Another bad weekend in Africa

#1 Unread post by sapaul »

So Saturday was not raining and my mate arrives and asks where we are going. He does this, he plans to go away for the weekend and just leaves it all to me. Ah well, I know where we are going. We have we had rains this year and about 100kms out we stop at the Vaal dam. This is the first time in 10 years that we have seen the sluice gates open.

Stopped at a one horse town and had fun with the locals who are always up for a laugh with the "Bikers"

Got up next day to pouring rain

My mate forgot his waterproofs and managed 230kms before we had to stop for food and hot chocolate.

All in all it was a great ride and well worth the effort, the bikes behaved flawlessly, we were on good roads with very little traffic and we had no incidents. Just does not get better than this.

Thanks guy's, one thing I can say about Africa is that it is a huge place and you have to travel for miles just to get anywhere. Where I am in JHB takes a minimum of 6 hours to get to the nearest shoreline and we have time spans of 4 hours between major cities. Its the little towns in between that makes it interesting.

Fun looking ride with some amazing scenery...

Day one we rode for 420kms. Day two we bypassed the one mountain and cut off 70kms. It was miserable for the ZX12R because he forgot his waterproofs and there was nowhere to get in the little towns on the way back. We took the most direct route without getting on a highway. The spray would have been worse. we were OK.
