Riding illegally.

#1 Unread post by snwbrdr »

So,
in june i went to the BMV and got my motorcycle permit packet. that was all till novemeber9 when i got my bike, insurance, and started riding. in November 19 i got a speeding ticket on my bike. paid it. continued on my way. then just yesteerday i was looking back throught the requirements to my endorsement and guess what.......
i've been riding illegally for over 1000 miles!!!!!!!!! In Ohio when you get your temps packet u then have to go take a vision test and a written test, but if u talk to the new lady at the BMV you dont know this!!!! She told me i was okay to ride when i walked out the door.
So, i'm lucky the cop issuing my ticket didnt realize my temps werent validated. I cant believe that the "8!@7ch" told me i could start riding.

yep, vision test and written test are part of the DMVs requirements to get a permit.

i almost failed the vision test. good thing the lady wasn't very strict when she tested my vision. i can still see objects good, but reading them from afar is hard for me now. which is why i most of the time i miss turns from following directions for failing to read street names from afar. :frusty:

I can see fine when I drive but I have to squint to get a perfect score on those vision tests.

I took my roadtest in Newark NJ in the 80's I swear to GOD there was a dead dog in the course it was an old abandon truck dock it was myself and another guy on the same kawasaki 440 ltd and the other guy went first and they told him just drive down frelinghuysen ave and come back he left and I asked the guy what happens if he doesn't come back he smiled and said "then he fail man as so do you" man how times change i did not have to take any hearing or vision tests and no msf or proper testing facility.
there aint nothin like it

I'd strongly adivse that the people who had trouble on the vision tests see the optometrist, aside from the fact that it might not just be poor vision, it's also dangerous to be on the road when you have trouble seeing details.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Aside from having to read BRUMBEAR's post like 4 times to actually form sentences out of it (I think you missed some punctuation somewhere), I agree with the optometrist thing. It is really dangerous to ride around with impaired vision. Contacts are pretty cheap, and perfect vision is worth it.
