Does the GS have a name?

#1 Unread post by Shiv »

I've looked all over google for this answer but can't find it.

I *thought* the GS was called a Bandit but wasn't the Bandit's production stopped a while ago?

So does the GS have a name? The GSX is the Katana, GSXR is the Gixxer, DL is the V-Strom, what's the GS?

Or is it just GS?

Bandit is still being made.

Far as I know, the GS is just a GS.

you might want to check with the folks on The GS Resources for more info

Hmm...for some reason I thought I'd heard production was cancelled on it like, back in Novemberish.

Ok so what's the Bandit then? GSF? Or is the GSF just a GS with an extra F? I never understood how they decide what to label a bike as.

I know there's a GSE which is just a GS with an extra E on it.

they still sell and make bandits on europe.

the wasy i see it that GS is a GSX w/o the X, since it has lower specs.

just like the GSX is a GSX-R w/o the R, since it has lower specs.

GSX-R > GSX > GS just rank based model name

having an X makes it better and having the X-R is the best.

There's no way in hell i'd ride a GSX-R 600 long distance. A GSX 600, yes. Each bike has it's own purpose.

But I thought bigger is better?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

im just saying it has better specs performance-wise.

i wasn't referring to comfort, gas mileage, etc.

Not really...

That would be like saying the CB is a non-racing CBR, and over there the CB is the Nighthawk?

But better is still a relative term, the GSX-R makes all it's power above 9000rpm, does that mean it's a better bike for around the city compare to a GS? I don't think so.
