Flashing Break Lights
I was driving to work the other day behind two guys on bikes, one of them had some sort of modification that would cause the break light to flash while breaking. At first I thought they were just flashing to make sure everyone was aware they were slowing down, but it continuted at red lights as well where it was obvious the rider was not taping the brakes.
Seems like a great idea, any one have any experiance with this? Any legality issues?

There are L.E.D. devices out there which have simple patterns (such as concentric rings of lights) which alternate when braking (I think it was an american firm which makes them, not sure on legality though)

There are several places online that have things like this. It's supposed to make cars more aware of your braking. There aren't any studies to back it up, or really any studies for anything motorcycle, so who knows if it really works. I can't see how it could possibly be illegal, since you can flash your brake lights however you want manually. Just do a google search for motorcycle brake leds, or motorcycle brake lights, or something like that.

it's possible a brake light which flashes rather than stays permanently on, could constitute a non-working brakelight, and fail your MOT hence making it illegal, but I really have no idea of the actual MOT legislation

We have them on our bikes. The units we have are LED, fit into the exsisting brake light case, and just plug into the old bulb socket. There are three or four patterns of flashing that you can choose before the light goes to a solid brake light. Flashing your brake lights is a great idea while driving a car, I would think it would just make that much more sense with a bike. Must work since we have not been rear-ended yet!!
We got ours from a shop here in Salem, OR think they were about 80 dollars.

If they are IN ADDITION to your regulation brake light, then there should be no problem. www.hyperlites.com are auxilliary lights that fasten ontop of your signal stalks (or underneath) or are available as a license plate fixture.c-los wrote:It's not legal, for cars or bikes. The flashers must stay on approx. 1 second, anymore or less is a violation...I don't know about bikers, but the cops in So. Cal. bust people for that often.
www.kisantech.com Tailblazer is a replacement brake light bulb.
I have both on my f650CS and folks stop in plenty of time when I brake.
