I almost never wax my bike. it's a KLR, it's supposed to be dirty

I waxed the gas tank once with Lemon Pledge spray wax and the magnetic tank bag slid around afterwards. I'll never do that again; besides if it's nice enough out to wash/wax a bike, it's nice enough to go ride it instead.

I use Meguiar's Gold Class wax. I was given a bottle for my birthday back in August, and a couple of micro fibre cloths. After it's been washed it takes all of 5 minutes to apply and remove a single coat of this stuff to the whole bike. It goes on, and comes off that easily.
If it's been a long day and I'm really tired and pretty stressed out, I got in the habit of heading out to the garage and putting 5 or 6 coats of it on, sure makes the bike look nice, and all the bugs and other garbage rinse off a lot easier.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
