Modular Helmet Experience/Recommendations
I am in the market for a modular helmet, and not looking to break the bank either. After reading quite a few on-line reviews I am between the Nolan and the HJC Symak - leaning toward the HJC.
Does anyone have experience with either one of these? Thanks

I've been looking at the Symax too...
Check out these reviews of the Symax, Nolan and 5 others...

I bought one from http://www.ironhorsehelmets.com/ about a year ago and I still love it. It is made by Rodia and it rocks.

Tried on the symax at a dealership once. I liked it, cool concept. No more yelling so people can understand you when you're wearing it. Cause we all know bikers are too lazy to take off their helmets
.
Once when i used to work at a grocery store, this couple came into the store wearing riding gear with their modular helmets still on their head, with the face flipped up. Walked around for a few minutes getting what they needed, then left.

I'm buying a Modular helmet this year as well - looking forward to it.

I've never tried the HJC but I've been riding with a Nolan for a couple of months. I really like it. Very comfortable, only moderate wind noise (I can still hear my engine at highway speeds), easy one touch flip up....the only issue I had was fogging but the provide a "fog insert" (why don't they make the whole screen out of that stuff?Philly Rider wrote:Does anyone have experience with either one of these? All in all, a very nice helmet.

Been looking at the same two choices. I now have a HJC CL-14 and like the way the HJC's fit my head. But looking at the HJC's I noticed that the latching mechanism is all plastic but in the Nolan they are metal. Plastic here concerns me. Maybe that's why the Nolan's are about $100 more expensive.

I have a VEGA (chinese made) convertable and I'm really happy with it, cost about $140 if I recall. It's very quiet, comfortable, and has good ventilation. The interior is first-rate. The latch is plastic and the release button requires a strong thumb....but there's lots of "overlap" and it seems secure. The adjustable vents themselves seem a little flimsy.
I'm hooked on convertable helmets, it would be very hard to go back to a conventional full-face.
