what should i buy?

#1 Unread post by VermilionX »

some of you may remember that i got a little money from worker's comp.

anyway... i wanna spend it on riding but i have some questions to ask 1st before i decide.

regarding leathers... smallest size seems to be 40. i guess the best way is to just find a store and test how it fits then order online. but what if i can't find a store that has the leather i want? should i just order online and and when i get it, try to wear it but make sure i don't remove the tags so i can return it if size 40 is still too big for me.

how about you Sev, IIRC, our height and weight are close. have you tried wearing size 40 1-pc leathers?

also these are the ones im choosing from.

i like the pattern of the 2nd one but it looks like it has extra room for a beer belly so that is a big let down for me. the 1st one, it looks fit in the stomach area but it has white knees. so im confused on which one if i will buy a racing leather.

regarding pipes... will my bike be consuming more gas if i upgrade the pipes? how much more than normal if it will, what %?

and what's the diff between buying a full race exhaust compared to a slip on?

the TRS looks great...

don't know about your other questions but definitly go for the racing leathers.

exause won't help you if god forbid you dump the bike and skid 50 feet down the freeway. though the exause will annoy those damn cagers  ....hmmm....this is toffie......but still, i recommend the leathers...

as soon as i get $1,800 that i can spend on w/e.....i'm getting me a alpine star one piece....it's sweeeet.

P.S. i heard that most and almost all one-piece leathers are VERY comfortable to ride in.

Besides, you have that god-awful fast bike, and the exhaust will only make it faster. You don't need faster my man, you need safer. Get the leather.

that's true but i won't be using the 1-pc suit immediately since i only intend to use it for the tracks or other special rides. 1pc is too much hassle for everyday common riding.

the pipes i can use it now. i heard it will add something around 5hp, but will i even feel the 5hp increase?

Put the money in the bank for if/when you need to fix something. Upkeep on a bike isn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination, especially if you aren't going to do your own wrenching.

I've never tried race leathers myself, makes you look to much like a power ranger, and I don't do the kind of riding that necessitates it.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Dropping coin on an exhaust system is a total waste of money for you right now, Verm. Any power gains it will give will be in the upper RPM ranges, exactly where you don't use or need it yet. The only thing you would notice from it would be a differnt exhaust note, mostly just louder. Your fuel milage won't be affected at the speeds and RPM you ride at for now.

You'd be farther ahead by getting a set of leathers if you must buy something.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

Go to your Suzuki dealer and get a factory shop manual. This is the same one the mechanics at the dealer use. Then go to Sears and get some decent tools. Learn to do some of the basic stuff on your own bike. A Pit Bull rear stand will also be handy. This stuff will save you much more money than it costs to aquire it.

Stash the rest of the cash for a while until you learn a little more to help your decisions.
I would be the old, slow guy. Just let me know where you are going and I'll try to get there before you leave.
