Shock settings

#1 Unread post by Caper#5 »

What are good settings to go with? Are the factory settings good enough for normal commuter driving, or should they be adjusted to my needs?

Thanks

Usually adjusting them to what is recomended to your weight is the way to go. Though in some cases, setting it higher than what's recomended will make it handle better, or at least differantly. My friend Dan has his 929 maxed out on preload and rebound, and he said it handles better than when he first got it.

It looks like you ride a sport bike... I would say to at least set the pre-load for your weight and leave the other settings at the factory settings for now... After about 1000 miles I would suggest reading the area of your manual that describes different types of feelings you might feel while riding and adjust the front/rear suspension to fit how you ride or how the ride feels to you. You may need to adjust the rebound etc.

I looked into stuff like that for the ZX-6R I hope to get in May. The service manager at the bike shop had a spec sheet showing the factory pre-sets on suspensions for different bikes. The pre-set for my ZX-6R is done for a 145Lb rider. I'm 175Lb but they said all they will set is the sag for now and when I go back at 500 Miles they will go deeper into all the settings for how I ride and my weight. I figure that is ok since 500 miles will go fast and I will be back at the shop in no time. The first 500 is break in any way and I plan on taking it very easy.

Thanks for the thread info. What every one was saying was what they told me at the shop. I was wondering about break in when I saw that silly sticker on the fuel tank, the service manager told me to do what all you guys were saying to do. Brand New is going to be awesom and I do not want to mess things up.
