It all depends on where the sliders would be mounted on the bike. It does not take much to bend an aluminium frame which is why in an accident they don't normally come into contact with the road.

When my Dad dropped my '05 SV650S, it didn't have sliders - clutch lever, bar end, mirror, turn signal, and shifter were all broken - only thing that got scratched was the side stand though. When I dumped it in the MSF ERC, I'd just put on my sliders - scuffed the bar end, scratched the fairing a little, folded the mirror back, and bent my shifter. Dad's drop was stationary, it just fell over. I was moving when I dumped it. Given the way it was laying, I'd say without the sliders, the fairing would have been way worse off, and my tank would be toast.

Congrats on the new bike, SVs are a blast. Keep a cool head, and don't do anything stupid and you'll be fine.

The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

Nice little SV. I really like the black frame with the yellow. Sweet.

Thanx jerk, I had almost kicked my jones for the yeller SV on the showroom floor here, until you put those pics up. Now I have to go cold turkey and deal with the night sweats and palsy again....

Don't worry, I bought that one, it's currently in my garage next to my 599. You spent so much time talking about how great it was that I couldn't resist. You'll just have to go shopping again to find some other bike to obsess over... and take me with you.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Very nice!

Most people I know recommend the frame sliders to prevent damage. I'm pretty sure they are commonly available for the SV as well. Enjoy your ride!

Exellent!!! Now I know someone with an extra bike, who can I beat up(that's rare) if he don't let me use it, for them times I'm visiting the folks and had to drive. And someone to ride with, if he ain't too battered to straddle his 599.

Thanx Dude.

Nice bike, they are very popular over here, with good reason, my bud has the sv650s and its a really responsive forgiving ride, my brother has the sv1000s and it aint that different to its smaller brother, nice ride, you can fang em hard or jus cruise.
