Yet another new tyre
16500 kms since May 2005 and I need another back tyre and this time a front too. Going with the Metzler Z6 this time, maybe I will get a bit more than 5000.

I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

I'll bet he has a couple in his garage.SuperRookie wrote:Road bad. Road eat tyresHey Sapaul...I'm detecting a pattern here in your acquiring of bikes...do you have any more "vices"?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Put a set of Metzler Z6 on today cost me R2000.00, approx 300 dollars.
Hey Mods, how about we put a sticky for mileage on new tyres so we can see what we get.

Write up a post about tires - sort of a statement of purpose post, and see if we can generate some posts about brands and milage. If we get enough interest, we can ask Mike (totalmotorcycle) to make that thread sticky, if it yields enough useful information.sapaul wrote:Hey Mods, how about we put a sticky for mileage on new tyres so we can see what we get.
I know my Continentals don't get as much milage as I'd like on my bike.

Re: Yet another new tyre
Paul, if you would only give up about 100 HP and 100# of excessive bike weight you could get 12-14,000 MILES out of a set of good sport touring radials.sapaul wrote:16500 kms since May 2005 and I need another back tyre and this time a front too. And get about 60 mpg overall while doing it. If I thrash the crap out of it keeping up with bikes like yours in the mountain twisties, it will only drop to 50-55 mpg at worst.
I've kept a record of the miles I've got from the various types of tires I've had on the two GS's to suplement my fading memory.

I used to scribble this info in the back of the owners manual until the puter age caught up to me. On the four 400-750cc Hondas I had before the GS500's I generally used touring type rear tires and got 25-30k miles from the Dunlop K491's and about 15-20k miles from the Metzeler ME88's. It wasn't till I got the first GS500 that I started riding like a kid.
