There's a feedback link near the bottom of the left-hand column. Let this bozo know how you feel about his idiotic tirade! The folks over at VROC are steaming over this article!
How do I politely say that I'm insulted beyond belief at your opinion and attitude towards motorcyclists. Yes, there are some bad riders out there who don't obey the laws, but there are bad cage drivers out there who are just as bad. In my ciy last year 12 people died as a result of motorcycle accidents, 600 as a result of car accidents. We had 8 people run over by street racers (pedestrians!)in souped up Civics and like.
Maybe the reason you don't see riders obeying the law is because you aren't looking for them, I can think of at least 4 times in the last 6 months that I've almost been run over, by some self obsessed "O Ring" in a car or truck that tried to change lanes into me. In fact I had a huge truck pull out in front of me on my last ride last year while I was doing 10kmh UNDER the speed limit. And I had to emergency brake in order to not get hit.
Contrary to your idiotic belief the majority of riders are good people who obey the law and actually care about what happens to other people on the road. And until you've ridden a bike in rush hour anywhere and seen just how many other vehicles will try to hit you you cannot imagine what we go through for the love of our sport.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
"You Sir, are a disgrace and a danger. Please explain the qualifications you have to enable you to decide that motorcycles should be illegal? Something 'you saw once'? You must possess awesome powers of deduction as well as multiple PH D's in physics and statistics.
I have no argument with stopping those idiots who are performing stunts and other dangerous and illegal maneuvers on public roads. But to assume that all riders behave like this is sheer arrogance backed up with nothing but your own occasional observations.
Lane splitting is not legal here, so I don't do it. But I would if I could. Hard as it is for you to admit, lane splitting reduces congestion and speeds up grid-lock. That gets everyone where they are going sooner, including you. Opening your door on a rider who is passing you will just create more congestion. And God help you if you don't injure that rider enough to keep him down until the paramedics get there. I think your big, brave attitude would change if he got up afterward and wanted to 'talk' to you. And your stuck in traffic, where you going to run off like a little girl too?
Something that I am sure never occurred to you, is that your not seeing the bikes that are not blatantly breaking the law. So maybe the awareness campaign has a point, yes?
Of course for me to assume that you don't notice law-abiding riders because your too engrossed in your cell phone conversation or too mentally challenged to do more than keep your own car in one lane is rather like you assuming all riders are pulling wheelies in traffic, isn't it?"
well i agree with all thats been said, id write up my own thing but im to sore and there is nothing else i can think to say. Well thats not true, i can think of one thing to say to this guy. Suck a tailpipe bread :-p

Re: Airing of Grievances by Douglas Simpson on 3/16/2006
I just wanted to let you know that your Managing Editor paints with a rediculously wide brush. We have all seen the proverbial wheelie-popping boy-racer riding a crotch rocket on the freeway, but how he represents all motorcyclists as a whole is beyond me. It's the same self-centered idiot behind the wheel of the ailing Chevy Beretta lighting up his tires and reaching twice the speed limit as he exits the kid-saturated apartment complex where I live. In all walks of life, Mr. Simpson, there is scum. Some of that scum rides motorcycles and some of that scum writes articles for narrow-minded newspapers.
Actually the article is pretty funny. I loved the first part where he says : " I challenge anyone out there to remember a time they saw a motorcycle that was driving the speed limit and adhering to all traffic laws.:
Hmmmmmm. I say --- I challenge anyone out there to remember a time they saw a CAR OR PICKUP that was driving the speed limit and adhering to all traffic laws. -- It don't happen either so what's the big deal?
NUFF SAID.
Let's face it.... If you argue with an idiot to try to convince him he's an idiot, just WHO is the idiot?

lol, I wouldnt get too worked up about this article. It is the man's job to write some very controversial article to get a rise out of as many people as he can. Don't bite, that means he has done his job.
Well, nothing more to be said really.... Is'nt it sad to see a washed up editor (in probably his last job before he's sent to a clinic to dry out), working at a tiny little suburban newspaper. These guys feel so inferior, that they can't stand to read real newspapers from real editors like they have in Dallas. Maybe when this guy shakes the D.T's, he'll be a better person for it. When the judge took away his car, something in him probably snapped and then that's when the voices started. Let's hope he gets some help. This editorial board of one can only hope he does.
