Helmet Advice

What is the major difference between the following two helmet shells and which one would make for the better dome protector?

Fiberglass/Kevlar Shell
or
Polycarbonate Composite Shell

Also, any opinions or comments on Scorpion helmets?

I'm always told that, as far as protection goes, as long as it passes the DOT then you're good to go.


As far as weight, I believe the polycarbonate is a lot lighter and thus probably more comfortable.

They're both about the same in terms of protective ability, fibreglass/kevlar will be a lot lighter, make sure that the helmet is at least DoT approved, SNELL is good too.

Polycarbonate shells are heavier, but ususally only by a few ounces. Poly is generally cheaper because it can be mass produced quickly by injection molding.

Fiber-glass/Kevlar is a lighter material and both materials are extremely strong. The fiberglass is a weave of tiny glass particles that is made into mats that have to be presses into a mold. These products cannot be produced as quickly and easily as poly and therfore more expensive.

Also, don't forget to read the "Helmet fit guidelines" sticky if you haven't done so already. If it doesn't fit right, and you happen to have a get-off and bang your head wearing an ill-fitting lid it won't matter what it was made of.

Best advice I can give. Make sure its DOT approved and it fits
