I don't know what this is a symptom of so I throw it to you guys.
When getting the bike going, unless you have it above 3k rpms, she'll sputter and die on you. When riding and going through the gears there's no power under 3k but when you hit it the bike jumps forward with a second wind.
Any thoughts?

So you've pulled the pilot jets, blown them clear of old fuel with compressed air and could clearly see the circular opening at the end, when held towards a light?
If those are CV carbs (I'm not certain), it sounds like needle clip position. Does the bike make lots of noise at full throttle but no or little power? Sounds like the needles need to be moved up, by lowering the position of the clip on the needle.
Is the bike stock? Have stock jets and whatnot in the carbs?

At full throttle she has both noise and power. She gets up to 100 fairly fast. When I first start moving I have to gun the engine a bit but once she's rolling and I get her above 3000 rpms she pulls hard.[/quote]Skier wrote:Does the bike make lots of noise at full throttle but no or little power?
I can try changing the needle, it's such a pain pulling those carbs but if it needs to be done, so be it.Skier wrote:If those are CV carbs (I'm not certain), it sounds like needle clip position. Sounds like the needles need to be moved up, by lowering the position of the clip on the needle.

I'd be more inclined to look at other things besides the needles, espcially if it's under 3,000 RPMs. How about idle mixture screws? Are they set to factory sepcs (usually two to three turns out, check your manual)?
Ya also might want to give this a read, it can be helpful:
