I'm wondering if anyone actually read the whole thread because the ninja 650 is not a GOOD beginner's bike. You could learn on it but be careful.

The 650 isn't that bad of a beginner bike depending on the rider... if he takes it easy and is careful he'll be fine. He also won't have to worry about trading it in for something faster/larger after 1 year like what happens to many people.

the 650R is made both for novice and experienced riders as kawasaki claims.

tame enough for newbies but still fun enough for experienced riders.

Congrats on getting back on and passing the class. Think friends of mine where in your orig class when you got hurt. You take it at Allstate Center?

I start my MSF class this wed.

Most of the reviews I have read on the 650R put it into the "Beginner Friendly" Category. Even more beginner friendly than the SV650

Ohhh okay than. I haven't read reviews on it recently. I thought it was advertised as a second bike only.

Both Cycle world and Motorcyclist came to the same conclusion. Good all around bike that is more comfortable and beginner friendly than the SV650.

it may have fairings but its more standard than sportbike, along the same lines as the ninja 250/500

But for all intensive purposes it's a horrible horrible bike to own... since the girlfriend wants one and I'm her floating pocket book.
