I'm 6'3" 230. Is a 250 cruiser too small for me?

Nibblet99 that sounds like a great idea. Then i could get a bike that fits me well and just restrict it. Would save me alot of money in the long run as well. Thanks, il have to look into it.

I agree with Nibblet, if only because recent noises from the Government have been to bang the DA courses up to 25 instead of the currant 21.

(Its amazing what you can learn on the loo at Dukens house)

That said I know Nibblet banged in some serious miles on 125's before going for his test and I've just cracked my first thousand on a CG125.

I'd recomend getting a cheap 125 your CBT and having a cracking summer before looking at your full test.

You can always ride the 125 until you find the bike you want to settle down on after passing your test (and I believe your insurance drops too)

I'm going to say again I am not a small guy <6'4, 32" inside seam>, I ride a 'small' bike and I have a lot of fun. I do a lot of town miles and a hell of a lot of 'highway/dual carriageway' miles.

To illistrate that engine size isnt everything. I not only get 70mph (and 100+mpg) but tonight I beat a 911 turbo off of the lights.

and to quote a 'Blade riding friend of mine who took her out for a run "I'd forgotten how much fun these things are!"

not to be condescending... but if you beat a 911 turbo, he was NOT trying to beat you. Your bike has 11 bhp, and does 0-60 km/h in 7.4s tops... that is KM per hour... not MPH.

So, that is 7.4 seconds for you to get to 37 miles per hour, and a Porsche 911 Turbo does 0-60 in under 5 seconds. So I gotta call BS on that one.

size of bike

I have a yamaha 250 Virago, and my husband is about your size and he said that he kills the bike when he rides. My son got a 500 and he is very happy with it (he is almost 6 foot and 190pounds).

alot of people that drive a Porsche have no idea how to actually handle it, i wouldnt be surprised if he beat some guy that bought a Porsche just to have it and had no clue when to shift.

I think the most likely explaination is 'Flash Car Phenomenon'

Over here you can get a way with a lot more in a beat up 10-20 year old Ford/Vauxhall/etc than you can in a silly price sports car if for no other reason than the SPSC driver knows that every traffic cop and his sister want to pull him to either have a look around the car or ticket him out of sheer jealousy.

Its always down to the conditions, the law was a major condition Tuesday, on a track he'd have eaten me alive.

When we were a lot younger a friend of mine by the name of Dave raced larger sportsbike across a 20 mile stretch of the Fens. Dave was until his death one of the best riders I know. Back then we were teenagers and were immortal, Dave had a tendancy to take risks. The road they ran down is this winding twisty thing with Artics hammering up and down it on both sides. In the end it came down to Dave having the skill and nerve to ride between the Artics with inches to spare either side and the other guy didnt want to risk his shiny new bike.

As he would say its not about the bike as much as its about the rider and the conditions.

Here http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/250s03/ is a review of several 250 size offerings. Check out the Alpha sports at 28 hp.

That is what I was sayin :) Im 6'0 225, and I love mine! Im still keeping it at half throttle for break-in, but even so, it accelerates great for around town! It will only get up to around 50 using half throttle, I hear that it will do 65mph all day, and can reach around 80 depending on the rider... I'd say more like 75 based upon our weight and inherent size penalty that goes with it...haha. But just go try some bikes out. After having ridden mine for a little while now, I am confident I could handle a 500cc cruiser... but my Alpha is more than adequate for me at this time.

Kal, so like I said... he probably wasn't trying to beat you. I really dont care how bad the driver is, a porsche turbo would take that bike without leaving first, from light to light. That is like saying I beat a Dodge viper in my 4-banger car because he was just cruising and I decided to go faster than him. All I'm saying is you did not beat a 911 turbo on your bike... you just decided to drive faster than he was. To beat someone implies their effort.

In the nicest possible way - you really need to get out more and lighten up... Hopefully there is some good weather on its way to you...

But on a similar subject this is a cool link...

Along the same lines that this thread is already talking about...I'm 6'3" 275 is a 250cc too small for me? I mean in terms of power will I be able to cruise at lets say 55mph?

Thanks for your suggestions.
