SV650 question
How hard would it be to convert a SV650 to an SV650S? I think all the needs to be done is get that front piece (don't know what its called), but I dont know how expensive that is or how difficult it would be to put that on. I am fairly skilled with a wrench and could easily wire some new headlights. Can anyone help me out with some info?

uhhhm.... right. Why don't you try converting an SUV into a pickup truck and let me know how that goes....heavyarms642 wrote:How hard would it be to convert a SV650 to an SV650S? The SV-S has a mounting lug cast into the frame that the fairing uses to attach to the frame in the lower corners. The standard SV doesn't have this, you'll need to rig up something else to do this. I'm not a big fan of drilling and tapping an aluminium frame, some folks are OK with that....
The instument pod might not fit the fairing... not sure about that. It will take some modification at any rate.
The bars may hit the fairing at full lock, so you might need to swap those out too.

No Witnesses....

There are some fairly large aftermarket fairings you can get for ths SV, take a look at those first.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

it's not just a matter of faired vs. unfaired.
from 2003 but it gives an idea of some of the distinctions:

I may be in error here but I'd think the headlight would be different as well since it is connected to the front bars on the standard and swivel left and right, while on the S they are fixed and attach to the fairing (I thinks)

Glad what you found what you wanted. Yeah, I agree that wasn't productive and it's a problem with open forums. However, the mix of good people we have here definately makes up for it. Hope it didn't put you off asking questions.heavyarms642 wrote:Thanks to everyone that gave me some useful info, so I guess it is a pretty extensive job. No thanks at all goes out to the all knowing "ninja79", the asshat remark was not needed nor makes the beginner biker want to ask questions.
