leaking carbs
leaking carbs
Hello, I have a 79 Suzuki gs1000L and it has sat for about 4 years indoors. prior to storing I had drained carb bowls put stable in tank and filled up full. So yesterday I drained fuel tank changed oil and oiled every thing according to owners manual. fresh fuel and started bike, Idles fine a does not miss but I am having fuel dripping or tracking by the bowls, But it does not seem to be coming from the bowl gaskets or fuel line. The over flow tubes are not over flowing. I am guessing I need to get new o'rings and gaskets for carbs. Does gaskets dry out from not being used? It is very hard to spot the gas leak with gas tank being mounted. Is there a way of running bike with tank suspended and a longer fuel line for then I can see top of carbs? Or could this screw up vacuum where I think it is called the fuel stick would not open for gas to flow. And I get no dripping gas when the engine is off.

Make sure it's not leaking from the screws on the bottom of the carb bowls. If they came loose they would be causing the leak. Careful not to overtighten them, though, they should just be snug.
