Riding to work in the rain

#171 Unread post by blues2cruise »

Tuesday March 21, 2006

I rode my bike to work today. Although it is an enjoyable ride into work in the morning, it is also a big pain in the you know what. The reason is because after I get to work, there is no secure place to leave my belongings. :x If I leave them in the little trailer at our lot, there is a chance that someone will be messing with my helmet or that my jacket will go missing. So, I have taken to stashing them in my bus with me while I drive around all day.
I was going to help someone count inventory after work and I needed transportation other than the public bus to get me to Richmond on time. Normally I would have gone in my car, but the store manager there was disappointed last year that he didn’t get to see me on my bike. So I rode this year. Although it was forecasted to rain, I have enough experience now, to ride home at night even if it raining a bit. I know the roads well enough so that I can choose well lit roads in good condition.
After work, I geared up and headed out to Richmond. On my way over the Knight Street Bridge, (which can be tricky at the best of times, let alone rush hour) I spied an eagle and a crow dueling it out in the air nearby. Darn it! I was wishing I was not on the bridge so I could pull over to watch and maybe snag a photo. I’m on the lookout for a photo competition called “airborn”. But the bridge is a bad place to be looky-looing, so averted my eyes back to the road ahead. I arrived at the camera store just on time and believe me I created quite a stir when I arrived wearing my gear and carrying my helmet. Paul, the manager, was thrilled to see me and was out the door like a shot to have a look. 8)

In past years, I have given Paul a ride home after inventory, but this year he had to scoop a ride from someone else. I am glad to report that the ride home was uneventful. I went a little out of my way to go home. I could have gone a more direct route, but the roads would have been too dark especially on a rainy night. So, in order to be safer, I took a long way home.
It gets better and better every time I ride….except for the mud….I wonder if I spray the whole bike with Pam cooking spray would it help the mud to just slide off and not stick to my bike?

From our coffee stop in Britannia. I'm not in the pic because I took the photo, but that is my blue bike sitting there with all the other big ones.

And just below is a pic of me at Kits Beach from the day I played tour guide for Ms. 1100 and"Jake".

Spraying the bike with Pam is exactly what I used to do to my MX bikes when racing. It keeps the big glops from sticking and making the bike 50lbs heavier at the end of the race. But on a streetbike, it makes washing the road-type mud off easier. You only need to spray the areas that you know get grimey, like underneath and the sides of the fenders, etc. You don't really want to get it on your mufflers or any exhaust that shows. Not only stinks, but might stain the chrome.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

As a dyed-in-the-wool, card-carrying Male, I have to point out that subtlety is not generally one of our strong points. Blues, we're all like that!

My wife tells me I'm as subtle as a mud fence......... or maybe that was "dumb as a mud fence" ?? :? Can't remember...... must concentrate....... brain hurts now.......arghhhhhh!!!!

You won't find any tigers in those woods, but you will find bears and cougars....the 4 legged variety....hahahaha

Some pics from today

#177 Unread post by blues2cruise »

WARNING....Not suitable for snow bound people who have PMS as bad as BuzZz

This is Mount Baker in Washington State behind the Fraser River in BC.

This is a view from Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver at lunchtime today. It is looking over to the North Shore Mountains. While I was walking around at my lunch break...with no jacket on...there were probably people skiing on those slopes.

No spring picture of Vancouver would be complete without one of the famous cherry trees.

Ok, last one for today. After work, I stopped at the river which is where I saw the Mount Baker view and this is looking the other way.
