Female bikers ride the open road in style

I learned to ride first... he learned so he could ride with ME.

We've got teenagers, so there aren't any babysitting issues and we can go for a ride in the evening or on a weekend.

Oh, you just have to rub it in! Well if I survive long enough, I hope to enjoy that kind of time on my bike too.

And I guess this fits in the ladies lounge too because as you say about yourself, it is true of Loonette too. I learned to ride so I could ride with her. She was my inspiration to become a rider.

I am more concerned about the dog strapped across her chest !

Hope they make lids for dogs?

If she wants to dress up like a popcorn star and that's what blows her hair back then more power to her.

I ride a Honda CBR600F4i superbike and dress for safety, but I still wouldn't wear something that I considered ugly. When I shop for gear I look for level of protection, comfort and good looks.

Geez, Scan, you too??!!!! I thought I was the only one. After years of making feral noises whenever she caught me looking at a Harley, Mrs. Stark caught the bug and bought a scooter in 2003. That led to a motorcycle, MSF, a license, and passing the scooter on to me. I endured 9 months (yeah, I renewed a permit 3 times

) of riding a BRIGHT YELLOW scooter while my beloved was on a cool black and chrome bike. Finally got a class scheduled, got a license and a "real" motorcycle.

We're an odd couple, she's the adventuresome one, and I'm the "voice of caution!!"

I'd like to see some stories about women who meet fellow riders for breakfast and then enjoy a long spirited ride through beautiful countryside. Or women who can maintain their own bikes, AND keep house and hold down jobs, but aren't mechanics by trade.

If one goes looking for the junk, one will surely find it. Mike found it and so have the rest of us now.

I'd say your looking at too much of the mainstream media, finding the 90% fashion statement sort of mentality (i guess the USA is a little more prone to that, culture wise though)... mainstream looks for these sorts of stories, because they accomodate the chosen clientele (people who dont ride, content with "shock" value, stereotypes, humor, goofiness, etc.). The other "10%" of the articles (or more like 30% of the articles content wise) can be found in less-mainstream media, true bike mags, local community, bike club newsletters, etc...

i find lots of interesting tidbits on women riders locally in most every facet of motorcycling (street riders, racers, tourers, cruiser types)... there seem to be mostly "real" women riding bikes, rather than totally poofy types, but maybe i just turn my eye from poofy types, sort of the same way i read a few lines of that article, chuckled, shrugged and moved on (actually, i didnt do that, I read where the discussion was headed then went back and skimmed the first lines of the article - because to me the discussion generated is often more important than the article).

Motorcyclist magazine has a sister publication called Motorcycle Escape which covers travel stories, and is headed up by Jamie Elvidge who is a long-time motojourno... she writes a fair amount of the content along with other well-known journalists and lesser known contributors. Lots of good stuff... recent issue has Baja trips, western canada, smoky mountains, Greece, etc...

I'm sure some of the women on this web-site could write an engaging story about there riding adventures and submit them to mags...

If this girl wants to spend her life as a lifesize barbie doll who am I to stop her?

But personally I don't want to spend my life with a barbiedoll, or even sleep with one. I don't have any patience with that sort of woman.

Yes a woman that rides is inantely sexy, but thats because she can ride not because her outfit is co-ordinated.

I have mixed textile and leather which I am told is a major fashion faux pas.

I plan on doing a cross-country trip in the summer of '08. I'll be 40 years old that January, and taking a large ride is something I really want to do that summer. My kids are still young, but they'll all just have to manage.

I also plan to keep a journal. I don't know if it'll become anything like a book, but I'll somehow share the story.

I'm not a typical person in any regards, and I think there are a lot of that sort of woman out there. We all have our womanly lives, but also have very diverse and interesting personal lives. So looking good on our bikes is fine, but what else is goin' on in there? Nobody seems to ask those questions in these cute little articles.
