i made the atf balancer.
honda cb 550 four
when i adjust one to two should i adjust # 2's adjustment or #1's.
and i already moved #1's.so should i hook a vacuum gauge to #1 just so i know i'm starting in the right vacuum level and tune the other carbs to match.ive had these carbs all apart and rebuilt them.
carb balance

The adjuster for carbs one and two *should* be between the two carbs. When in doubt, slightly adjust the ones you think might be it. Only the one for the carbs you have the gauge attached to should move. In other words, if the balancer is on carbs one and two and you are adjusting three and four's balance, your readings will not change.

i believe if im not mistaken i have an adjuster for each carb.thats my question.should i adjust carb 1&2 with adjuster 1or2?ill go ouside in a minute a look again to confirm. but what i was saying was should i hook a vacuum gauge to #1 and set it.then set # 2 to 1 by adjusting #2 carb adjuster.I was playing with it earlier and noticed with the balancer hooked to 1&2. that if i turned either 1 and 2's adjustment the gauge readings changed.so do i need to start buy getting 1 to a specific vacuum reading and going from there.

With a four carbs like you have, there are only three adjuster screws. You use the one between carbs one and two to get those balanced. This does not effect any other carbs. Then you move on to balance carbs three and four to each other. After this, carbs one and two are balanced to each other, but not necessarily to three and four. In an extreme example, one and two could be shut entirely while three and four are at half throttle. To rectify this, you balance the sets of carbs. It doesn't matter which carb you pick from each side, but pick carb one or two, then carb three or four.

hello skier your making sense to me.but i have a carb adjuster for 1,2,3,4.
there are four screws. 2 adjusters between 1 and 2. 2 adjusters between 3&4.
you said thers only one.i can turn either of the screws and it changes the outcome.so do you mean i need to only adjust one of the two.to do carbs 1&2.then i adjust 3&4 by turning either of there adjusters.making sure the threads are close to being even on both adjusters.
then to finish i adjust 1 or 2 to either 3&4.
so maybe i shouldnt touch the adjuster for #1 and just adjust 2 to it. is that correct?sorry for the hastle but i apprecite your input.the manual just has the using vacuum gauges on all four carbs and adjusting them seperately to a specific inches in mercury, plus or minus a few.I made the one they described on this forum that does two at a time and im just a little insecure on my efforts.and trying to get some input.

Hmm. Sounds to me this is a different beast than I've seen. In this situation, where I guess each carb has a screw on a common arm for two carbs, you have two screws to play with instead of one. I don't think it matters which one you adjust, as long as the two you are adjusting have the same amount of vacuum when you're done. You may have to do a bit of tweaking to get it right, but it shouldn't be all that hard.
Is it possible to get some pictures of what you're dealing with?
