Question- Big Guy Sport Bike

I owned 2 bikes about 5 years ago and rode quite a bit. I learned how to ride on a CBR1000 and then traded up to a GSX-R1100. I am looking to get back into it but am not sure what size bike I would want. I am 6'2, about 280lbs. I was thinking R1, but that sure is alot of machine for someone with a few years experience. Do I need to buy a large engine bike because of my size? Would a R6 or 600 class be enough?

I'm confused as to the question. You've already ridden for some time on 1000+ cc engines, now you're asking if you need a 1000cc engine will be big enough to pull you?

How about this, the 600 puts aprox 110-120 horse on the ground. And weighs between 380 and 400lbs depending upon how much liquid you have in it. Lets add an even 300 lbs on top of that, for a combined mass of 700 lbs max.

A Ford Mustang weighs 1.75 tons. And puts out 310 hp. There's 2000 lbs in a ton, so that's 3500lbs for 310hp. Throw and extra 300lbs on there for the driverm, and that's 3800lbs to 310 hp.

The point of all that? A 600cc sportbike with 1 very large passenger still has WAY more hp compared to weight then a "sports car".

So, will a 600cc biek pull you? Yes. Will a 100cc bike pull you? Yes. Can a 250cc bike pull you? Yes as well.

Let me get this straight. You supposedly started on a cbr1000 and went to a bigger gixxer, but now are asking if an r1 would be okay for you. You are either supremely mentally challenged or just looking to see what kind of replies you will get. I hope it's the latter.

No, you really aren't speaking for everyone. Give the guy a break, if you read his post, he was saying that he knows the R1 is a lot of bike, that he learned on a CBR1000, so he isnt sure if the R6 would be enough for his weight. Just sounds like he doesnt know to me...

To actually answer your question, the R6 is plenty fast for anyone. It is definitely enough, and your weight is not really a big factor. Your comfort is probably what you should be more concerned with.

Most people will tell you a 600cc supersport is way too much for a beginner, but since you started on a 1000cc, it is kind of hard to tell you that. You know your own abilities better than anyone. I would personally start with something easy to manage while getting back into riding.

If you are comfortable with your skills and like the 600cc bikes, it has plenty enough power.

That hurt me so bad I'm going to go get on my bike and go for a ride to cool myself down before I post somethign hurtful back. I think you should to the same...

TWO wheels only ran the new release R6 against the R1 round a track a couple of months ago.

The R6 beat the R1 round the track by a clear second. Despite the R1 having the speed on the straights the R6 owned the corners.

I really don't know what to suggest you should do apart from sit on a bunch of bikes and get a trail ride on the one whoose ergos are most comfortable to you.

Just bare in mind that upto date sportsbikes can eat old school rocketships in pretty much every area, take it easy and ride safe.
