Good news first. After a month and a half of tinkering and cleaning, I got my bargain basement Virago running. It was a happy night.
On to my question. I can get the bike to start and idle fine, but when I slowly build rpms it starts to hesitate and sputter at 2000. If I can get over the 2k mark, it's fine and can throttle up and down quite nicely, but sometimes it drops out and stalls. Could it just be a few more of the cobwebs in the system and improve the more it runs? It's been sitting for about 4 years I think, and it did seem to be starting to run a little better near the end of my playing around last night. Maybe I didn't seat the carbs entirely right?
The bike is an 83 Virago xv750.

I'd look around the carbs and make sure you have them sealed up tight.
Air gaps will give you a bog like that.
As well as a cylinder with out spark. Check your plugs to make sure their burning clean and true.
Even if their new. I've ran into three bad NGK's right out of the box this year.
Good Luck!!!
And get out riding!

Thanks for the suggestions. I gave the carbs a good cleaning, but have heard on numerous occasions that many people have had to clean multiple times, so I'll give it another go. Also, I'll check your suggestions Quick 350. Maybe those first so I can possibly avoid removing the carbs again.
