They are out there, its just there seems to be more of an attitude stateside that Motorbikes are a hobby than a valid form of transport, so Bikes promoted stateside don't need to be pratical.

Above we see a happy Ehtiopian family on a Honda CG125 - probably a j with the modification of crash/bush bars to the bike frame

My Honda CG125 - admitedly a motorbike not a Scooter had racked up 50,000 miles+ before being stolen and the engine was still going strong...

You just cannot kill them. After the first theft attempt on CeeGee I had to replace the wiring loom. A brand new item ordered from Honda cost me £90 roughly $160

My partner Jules has an 80's CX500 custom converted into a trike which will carry us, the trike subframe and kit in the backbox without issue.

I'll post pictures at some point.

Divide and overflow ran a 250 with no problems - I can't remember who it is distributed by stateside, over here it is Hyosung.

Beauty and the Beast, admitedly the K12S does the hard long distance stuff, but the Kymco puts in it's fair share between me The Goose and the Kid. It cost a lot less than the Burgman and Honda's and is getting a reputation for reliability. In South Africa they have a 24 hour parts obtainment policy. I paid R30 000 for this which equates to 4470 Dollars.

I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

I am kinda confused about this thread... any cruiser/standard with a smaller cc engine <1000cc with some saddle bags (hard or soft) would be plenty practical... no?
