Yamaha R6 and R1 owners...

I haven't bought my bike yet, but a couple buddies of mine bought R6's as their 1st bike...and of course, I do love them. They are doing fine and riding safe and I know I could do the same. I'm also quite fond of the R6's big brother (R1). I know these bikes are quite the machines, so I was looking for some information on how these bastards handle. Any stories welcome. Thanks.

They only handle as well as the guy behind the handlebars.

I've seen Harleys outhandle Sportsbikes like the r1 ... because the sportbike riders didn't know what they were doin. Likewise I've seen a Ninja 250 make it through a road course faster than an r6 ... same reason - the 250 rider spent time learning how to properly ride a machine with forgiving characteristics, the r6 rider believed that he couldn't be beaten because he was on a hot bike. (Maybe he thought the bike would ride itself?)

Anyway, I think you see where I'm going. Handling stories don't mean anything ... because they're not 'your' handling stories. Go ask your freinds for stories ... I'm sure they have plenty of whoppers for you to eat right up.

Furthermore, why do you think anyone in the -NEW BIKERS SECTION- would have an R1 or R6 - Why don't you post this in the -EXPERIENCED BIKERS FORUM- ??

The bike is designed to respond to a specific set of commands. On a bike like a ninja 250 or 500 it is designed to respond to, and compensate for a wide variety of potential mistakes. It will not forgive everything that you do, but it will be less likely to punish you for a mistake.
Riding an R6 or R1 requires that you know exactly what you're doing. Inputs must be precise and well planned. Because the bike isn't going to "smooth out" and mistakes you might make, or accidents that might happen.
If youhit a pothole and blip the throttle on an R6 you're going to be going VERY fast all of a sudden. If you do it on a ninja 250 well, you're going to jump RPM's really fast, but you'll have more time to sort things out.
Take the time to learn on a smaller bike, you'll be glad that you did.
