Dirty, what was meant about sportbikes not being "made for taller riders" is actually a quite valid point when you consider the riding position of "sportys". Especially if you were to move up to a litre-bike where the pegs are higher and further back. How many 6'5 racers have you seen? You can get quite cramped up if you've got a long inseam. Ultimately it'll be about your comfort level while riding. Sitting on a 250 Ninja for 15 minutes is great...riding for a couple of hours I'm sure will be a different story.

Stylz, also check out the Kawa Ninja 500...great first bike. When you're ready to move up, you may want to consider a dual-sport, which are great, I believe, for taller riders...the seat height is generally higher and there are some really nice ones out there like the Triumph Tiger and the Aprilia Caponord...Aprilia makes some sweet bikes btw. Triumph also makes sweet sportys...check the Speed Triple and the Daytona 675 when you're ready to move up.

I actaully like that ninja 250 more each time I see it.

Would like to hear from somebody about weight. Thats my only concern.
I'm 6'0 230lbs, started on a 250. It had NO problem moving in traffic. I was able to navigate traffic just fine.

If I were you, I would go take a serious look at the GS500F, the Ninja 500, and the Ninja 650R. Those should all fit you pretty well.
I find the SV650 and the SV650S to be a little tight/uncomfortable for me...

The Ninja 650R is probably one of the most comfortable "sportier" bikes I have sat on. I would just caution that is has a bit more power than the 500's. Either of the 500cc bikes are an excellent choice no matter if you are a beginner or an advanced rider. I know people who swear by the GS500's, and routinely embarrass 600cc sportbikes in the twisties.

Just go find what is comfortable for you. I wouldn't worry too much about your weight. I've had an extra person on my 250 before, I still had it up to 65mph and it wasn't maxed out.

Right now I'm focusing on three bikes:
