I had an '84 Virago which is the only other year of the 1000cc models and it was quite reliable . As a matter of fact I still had it when I came around here . Never had any carb problems ,etc.
My brother in law now owns it and rides the hell out of it . Not a bad choice for a first bike because cruisers are far more forgiving than sports bikes . It has enough weight to keep you from being too silly . Know what I mean ?
A good source for nfo regarding Viragos http://hometown.aol.com/iamflagman/viagromanxv1100.html

Just traded in my Virago 250 for a Suzuki S50 and the Virago is a good road worthy bike. Went on a ride with my biker friend who ride H-D's and the bike kept up with the big boys with no problems @60- 70 mph and the gas milage was near 60mpg. It's a very nimble bike and very easy to control. If I had to buy another 250cc I would choose the Virago again. 8)
