I have to agree with a few others, it sounds like you are being too reactive. When I ride in traffic I assume people are trying to kill me. Whenever I approach a person turning left I slow down and try to look at their eyes. I assume they are going to turn left anyway and prepare to stop or swerve. Its kind of tedious riding, but then again I avoid riding in heavy traffic, as I just ride my bike for fun and I dont commute.
A vast majority of the time people do see me, nonetheless I ride with a huge safety cushion most of the time. I ride such that cages can do stupid stuff all day and they wont affect me because I have already avoided them.
