very sad, very very sad. people like that are going to make them pass regulations as mentioned in the story and make it harder for people who want to buy a bike, learn to ride at low speed in an abandoned parking lot then go get a licence. I hope the girl is okay. its just a shame that the only "bike storys" that make the news are of dumb "O Ring" people who make the rest of the community look bad.

WOW, Im just stunned. I was pretty dumb when I was 19, but wow.

That girl reminds me of some people who join this forum. Mind you, about 1 in 200 people who join the forum, but enough to make every MC rider look bad. These are the people who say: "sup which bike is faster a gxsr1000 or haybusa???? these bikes are crazy fast and crazy cool which one should I get???".

You tell them to read the stickies and you never hear from them again, they have gone onto other forums where people just dont care.

It just pisses me off that the AMA is pushing for no helmet laws with so many other hugely important issues facing motorcyclists, including educating new riders and public awareness of motorcycles.

This is very sad and I hope the girl makes it out ok, but there's an issue I have to stress. Riding a bike takes a certain degree of responsibility and maturity. I mean according to the article she was doing 100mph on a new bike she had never rode before, while she more then likely didn't have more then a few hours riding experience.
Even though I got my first bike before taking the MSF course I started on a Ninja 250 in an empty parking lot riding around cones. Part of me agrees with the legislature that you should have to take an MSF course before you purchase a bike. That at least would give you a good foundation of riding before another 18 year old kid buys a GSXR1000 for his first bike and wrecks himself flying down the road.(Don't laugh I know of two people who have done this.)
Always leave em wanting more...

Wow - how sad. Well you can't legislate stupidity out of the equation unfortunately.

I know people don't like to be regulated and neither do I but:
A bill before the Florida House of Representatives could have prevented the accident. The proposed legislation would require safety training and proof of endorsement before a motorcycle can be purchased or registered
I don't see the problem with that. It's not a helmet law, just a law saying you have to have training first.

Anyways, it doesn't mention what kind of bike she was going on. It said she had the throttle full open and she was going 100 MPH but I think even on a 500cc (what it sounds like she had) the person would have time to realize "maybe I shouldn't be going this fast". Maybe the old powerband on the 600 got to her? I wonder if the salesman who sold her the bike has heard about this yet.

And more so, even cares.

Edit: Of course if she had just bought it I wonder if she knew how to shift? 100 in first gear? Wouldn't that be closer to a Busa?

But she did get it out of Neutral, so I suppose she knew something about shifting. Hmmm...
Have fun on the open /¦\

She was riding with a friend!??

With "friends" like hers, who needs enemies!?

Some could say that Darwin was on to something after all.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

The whole damn world is going to hell.

That's it, I'm leaving!
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
