It all depends on what you are looking for... and personal opinion... all Honda bikes are good bikes... in MY opinion the 250 bites... I'd say get a used 750 if you like that style :D

Bad idea my friend:

http://www.motorcycle.com/mo/mccompare/250shootout.html

Absolutely destroyed in a comparison of 250cc bikes.

I think every beginner wants a bike that is both manageable and fun, and the NH250 is no fun.

Here are my recommendations:

Kymco Venox: http://www.motorcycle.com/mo/mckymco/05 ... ndex.motml

If you're into cruisers and don't mind the risk of a Korean product, this bike has by far the most style of any 250cc cruiser. From a distance it looks like a big sexy VTX.

Yamaha Virago: Not as interesting as the Venox, but possibly more reliable.

Kawasaki Ninja 250: Definitely my first pick for a newbie bike. Quick and agile, reaching 100+ mph, but in no way intimidating. Also a bargain. Get this bike.

Mr jaydubs85, I suggest the street legal dual sport bike like the Kawasaki 250, Suzuki DR200, or DRZ400S. The reason is these bikes are built stronger with stronger supension and can take a beating off road, riding one on the street it will last forever. I owned a Suzuki DRZ400S and im sorry I sold it, it had a top speed of 94mph and it matched the speed and acceleration and hp of a Harley 883, plus its light weight if you dump it you can pick it up, they are good on gas, have a high resale value, look good, easy to ride. Any dual sport bike will outrun any street bike the same size.

So a KLR-650 will outrun an SV650?

Methinks not...

Yeah, that is a pretty innaccurate comment. Now, maybe they can outrun them OFFROAD... but definitely not on road. The Ninja 250 will outrun the KLR 650 on the highway...

On topic: The Ninja 250 is a great bike. I would highly recommend it over the nighthawk.

Right now I have an EX500 which is my second bike, however, if I were going for my absolute first bike and wanted to have a bike that would force me to perfect my shifting technique yet rewarded me when I stayed in the sweet spot, I would definitely go with the EX250.

The one thing about it I don't like is that it's short and I'm medium-tall so it would get a bit cramped.

I don't know about the nighthawk 250, but the larger ones (450-750) are very good bikes.
