which wires to cut or join? I want to test kickstand switch

#1 Unread post by max2002 »

I have a 1982 yamaha seca 650. I rode it a bunch last year and put it away for storage. When I got it out it started right up, but when I put it into gear it immediatly stalls. It will not start in gear even with the clutch in. It must be in neutral. Seems like the ol' bad kickstand switch problem.

There appears to be 3 (maybe more) wires heading to the top of the bike from the kickstand switch. Can I cut/splice the wires for testing until I can get a new switch? If so what colors?

Thanks so much in advance for any help!

In your service manual you should have the colors you need. A sidestand switch usually has a 2 pin connector under the seat.

Hope that helps

First test the leads next to the switch to verify that indeed it is a faulty switch (take an ohmeter place across the wires and test for continuity and lack of). When you confirm this then test the wires individually. Hope this helps
