well yeah, im sure you know im aiming to get the new gixxer600 for my next bike. im sure it's less desirable than my previous 1000 but im also sure i'll still love it, maybe even more since i think i'll be able to control it easier.
Naw... don't get a GSX-R 600, they aren't at the top of their heap like the Suz 1000s are.
If you want a middleweight class bike, get a Triumph 675 or a Yamaha R6.
I'm pretty sure he has his heart set on the gixxer. It's not like it would make an ounce of difference one way or the other. The difference between those bikes is mostly rider preference and skill... so telling him to get a 675 or R6 is pretty pointless, since we know he likes the gixxer more, and he wouldn't be able to find an overwhelming difference between them anyway (because there isn't one).
One of my buddies went out and got a new R6 for his first bike... guess what, he still can't keep up if we didn't wait for him. Which is fine, I have no problem waiting... but he has one of the "fastest" bikes out of our group, but he is still the slowest rider. Even when I am on my KZ650 with its whopping 55hp, I pull away in the corners.
So, like I was saying, between those bikes, it won't matter performance-wise. I'm still a proponent of starting smaller until you can ride the hell out of the small bike... Why move to a bike you aren't able to control, and then have bikes with half the displacement fly past you because your bike greatly exceeds your skills? GSJack (runsilent now) has the right idea in this case.. he whoops up on liter bikes with his GS500, because he can ride the bike to its potential... and most kids with literbikes can't.
