I'd have to agree with diezeige on the sir/ ma'am thing. Unless your in the military were ranks are established everyone is an equal and should be treated as such. Just because I don't call someone older than me sir/ ma'am doesn't mean I'm not respectfull or polite. If someone required me to say sir or ma'am when talking to them I don't think I would. It seems a bit disrespectfull to the younger of the two. Beside respect what does it accomplish? A false sense of superiority which no one needs.

I just think it's polite. I guess for the most part I did that at work.... for tips, lol. But I still do it away from work, maybe out of habit. But I still think it's the right thing to do for the most part.

Hey, you, is certainly not polite. Nor would "yo, mamma", be considered polite.

I find that generally you introduce yourself to someone you don't know and then they do the same.

Something like "Hello I'm myself002, its nice to meet you and you are?" Thats perfectly polite and doesnt use any sort of superiority discriptor(if you wanna call it that).

If your going for a job interview or going to meet a boss or someone from another department useually you have a purpose and know who you are seeking out. Then it would sound like "Hello Mr. Someone I am Myself002 nice to meet you"

He should come to my subdivision. We have guys zipping down the street on scooters, no helmets.

There's always at least one person in every neighborhood who just has to complain about something or someone for no real reason.

However, I agree that you should probably get your license before tooling around the neighborhood again...especially near his house.
