modular helmets are for old fogeys on touring bikes.
full face is for the cool peeps.
seriously though, the best protection is offered by full face.
modular helmets... i wouldn't trust the lock on it to stay locked in the event of a hard wipeout.

I'd agree with Verm, most modulars havent been updated in awhile with the exception of a kbc one I think. Anyway with all the new improvements in helmets that have been coming out I would recomend going with a newer design.

look at the picture pick a couple that you like then read the reviews then go into the store and check the fit. Get the one that fits the best regardless of price

So long as it fits, you'll be okay.
I know a bunch of folks who have modular helmets because they communte on their bikes and work on a military or secure gov't sites and must show ID and their faces to enter.
The modulars tend to be much more noisy than regular full face.

From what I've read, helmet noise reports are almost as useless as fit reports because there are too many variables (fairing/windshield, head shape, head angle, rider hight, construction variation, expectations, etc.) to make one person's experiences meaningful for someone else.
FWIW... I really like my Nolan N100E... noisy? a bit... but it does what I want including being able to lift the chinbar....
I saw someone yesterday riding a GSX-R yesterday wearing a novelty brain bucket straight out of a "fat bikes and hog leather" shop...it looked so completely right...uncanny.
