To explain a little better, I have an 82 XJ650 Maxim. The 2nd gear is out and from what I understand it would cost less to just put a different engine in that has a tranny rather than have someone fix the tranny on the 650. I have access to a 750 Maxim engine and was wondering if everything will bolt ok on the 650 Maxim frame ? Or are there some problems I may encounter ?

Thanks,
Ron

I think the swap should be fine, but you may run into problems w/ the exhaust mount points. Compare and measure the frames etc out but it's all the same engine, shouldn't be too different.

Thanks !
One more question. In your opinion is the the best way to go- Change to the xj750 engine rather than tear down the 650 and change or fix the trans. ? I was told the latter is more expensive. Does that sound right ?

Thanks

Definitely more expensive to fix the gear on the 650 ... even if you have to get some motor or exhaust mounts fabbed on your frame, it still shouldn't be as much as the cost to break down the negine and rebuild it.
