What to do!!!

#1 Unread post by djbear »

Hey Guys...
Just was reading about the MSF
I am in Canada... did a little research and found
'Gearing Up motorcycle rider training program'.

http://www.ridertraining.org/about.htm

My Location - Requirements (opens slow)
http://www.fanshawec.on.ca/coursesearch/CEGuide.pdf (pg 62)

The only Issue I have here is they require that I have a
DOT approved Helmet before I take the Course.

Would anyone know of another Canadian Course
or would you suggest to (I know I'm gonna regret this statement)
to get a Used helmet?
There would be a really cool signature thingy here if I could figure out how to make one.

Try a local flea market. And while you're at it, you should also get a used condom.

you're welcome.

Deffinatly read the sticky pertaining to helmets. Obviously a used helmet is better than no helmet, but they generally should not be used or bought and should be replaced every 5 years.

Make sure if you buy a used helmet, that the previous owner's family wiped all the blood off.

With all due respect, if you can't afford to buy a new helmet, I don't think you can afford to become a motorcyclist.

Here. Pick one:

My helmet was a cheap ($60) AFX. But it fits well, and that's what's important. You don't have to go out and buy a Shoei, just make sure it's snug and DOT approved, and full-face helmets are more protection.

I don't want to buy a new helmet before I buy a bike
Depending on the bike I get, then I will buy the helmet

I just don't know about this statement, should I take offense?
My only real question was should I buy New or Used for the training course?

Helmets -- like condoms -- are for one time use only. If you fall, the helmet becomes useless -- it's done its job. Even if you drop it, it will probably be useless (depending on the height, etc.) For that reason no sane motorcycle school is going to provide you with a helmet: it's just too much of a liability risk.

...unless of course you're in LA. Then you don't even have to wear your gear (btw, I should have mentioned that in my rant about riderite).
