Goup Rides

I'll go riding with Poppy, the rest of you go on one of those group thingys, and do have a real nice time--don't bump into each other, now, and be sure to all go the same speed, so nobody gets left behind. Real fun.

This reminds me of a story. a story about a man having his midlife crisis thingy. he buys a harly (I'm not sure why but whatever). after some schooling and some riding he decides to drive from orange county to somewhere in nevada. he gets 2 other harly onwners and a sports bike guy to go with. well the sports bike being the odd man out getts picked on for his smaller engine and lack or troqu. so he plays it cool keeping up with them but making it look liek he has to try hard. suddenly the sports bike guy's gone. it's an open road though the desert. could they have been too fast from him? NO! right about the time they are thinking this a bullet flys by at 140. yeah it was that sports bike guy

I prefer to ride alone, or with one other friend/relative. 3-4 has to be my limit, assuming compatible riding styles and expectations. I'm an introspective personality to begin with, so riding is a way of getting away from job pressure and other worldly demands. I did one poker run: and despite riding in smaller groups to each stop, the barbeque with 150+ strangers did nothing for my underdeveloped social persona. Fortunately, we have choices, and ultimately gravitate to the setting that fits us best.

I'm with you, Bob. I prefer solo, have done a lot of touring with one other, and occasional day-rides with 3-4, and won't even consider more. I had a nice solo ride today, enjoyed every second of my solitude.

I don't mind ridng with one or two people, Where you all know eachothers limits, and don't try to tempt someone to go faster than they are safe to. There's also something absolutely fantastic about a coupla thousand riders burning out their clutches around town, but I wouldn't want to do that every day

Have been on a few group rides, tend to find them a bit slow, so we ride to destination with them, but then totally lose them on the way back.

Normally I ride by myself or just with one or two others. I have been on group rides of 40 or more bikes. What we do is split up into groups of five or six. Much more manageable in traffic. Pick way-points along the way to regroup. One rider rides "sweep" to make sure all are ok.

I went on one large group ride, a toy run. Never again will I subject myself to that much stupidity. Entirely too many people that have no business trying to ride with that many others safely. They were mostly RUBS that wanted to show how they can get out and ride their new to 3 year old cruisers (I refuse to bash brands) with 500 miles on them.

Poker runs you can break into the groups you want to ride with. The only problem around here is they only go 100-120 miles and all the stops are at bars. 100 miles- barely worth starting the bike for a "run." Lets make it 100 miles a leg. Now we're talking!

About 500 bikes including 4 sport bikes mine being one of them. In a 30 mile loop we lost about 10 bikes including one old Triumph hard tail that insisted he was going to ride beside me.

I could have stayed in first gear the whole time. The only way I could tell mine was running was to look at the tach. Sure couldn't hear it.
