To be honest with you, I feel safer on a bike than in a small junk car too. I own a turbo VW beetle which is plenty fast ans has front and side airbags, and a 1991 VW Polo which is a euro specific car (1 liter engine, 45 horsepower)

I feel much safer on the bike. Better acceleration to get me out of trouble. Plus I'm was in a car accident (as a passenger) and was thrown clear of the wreck Because I wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Had I been wearing a seatbelt, I would have been crushed. So, i actually am very wary of cages and feel much more comfortable on a bike - (Though I do wear my seatbelt now, at my wife's insistence!)

I honestly believe that if you really want a bike, she should be able to accept that (Especially seeing as you have been getting by with one car already.) Marriage is about accepting the other person - and their little bits of craziness that sometimes just drive you nuts. You just have to be willing to bend on other issues if ou want her to bend on this one ...

Sometimes they just won't accept it no matter what. My GF hates the bike, but it's all about compromise. In this case we just agree to disagree, and I don't tell her about the fun rides. She gets very nervous about the whole escapde, though the last two years of safe riding have helped ease her concerns.

Ha! Try convincing the boyfriend the same thing lol

hahaha the reason you can't convince them that you want a bike as a 2nd vehicle that is fuel efficeint and safe is because you're lying! (not only to the them, but also to yourself). You want a bike because they are so fun (especially when compared to a festiva)! (and better fuel efficeiny is a bonus, sure) I don't blame you for wanting a bike, just admit that you want one for more than just because they are soooooo fuel efficient and "safe" (not sure I'd buy that).

Just don't try to sell the "I want a bike cause they're such practical/sensible vehicles" bit. Hopefully your wife/gf isnt the dumbest gal in the world so she won't buy it. I'd try telling the truth which includes the pros and cons of both vehicles and tell her that to you, the pros outweigh the cons for a bike.

The most important thing you can remember is that the plural of "wife" is "wives". That will sort out any surther problems you have. Or, at least some of them.

I had the same problem. I got hit by a car while riding a bicycle in January, so when I bought a motorycle in March, she wasn't too happy about it.

hehe when my son was 18 months old (my oldest son I have 3 sons and soon I will have 1 daughter. oldest is 4.5 yrs old now) I was walking across the street crosswalk and my son was pointing at a big truck saying daddy truck look a truck. out of the corner of my eye I saw a car turning right at me (he was turning left) and didnt even look to see if someone was walking across the street. Must of scared the bejesus out of him when he saw us as he immediatly slammed on his brakes and then immediatly got slammed into by oncoming traffic. scared the bejesus out of me and my son when they crashed but i thank God that he saved me and my son from getting run over by some moron that cant look to see if pedestrians are crossing before turning left. My brother-in-law got into a motorcycle accident (she just told me about it) a couple years ago and I didnt know (we have been married 5 years and I never knew about this) so she is worried I will have the same problem. he just laid his down though so he didnt get hurt badly.

Unless you have really good public transportation in your city, I think the both of you need your own car, especially if you both work. Plus like mentioned before, what if your bike is out of commission for some reason or break an arm or something. You need a car as a back up.

Now about the bike, involve her in the decision. I kinda agree with Rach, is it really a transporation thing or something else? When people are afraid it's because they don't have the knowledge to feel otherwise. I was against my husband getting a bike. He kept insisting, mental fatigue set in I guess... He educated me on the whole thing, I ended up taking the classes myself and getting my own bike.
