Looks like Spring sprung early!
Hello all,
Thought I'd ping the NC riders.
Went to Michael's two weekends ago. Tons of bikes, but the restraunt was swamped. Wound up eating elsewhere.
Anyone else go to Michael's? If you see an ugly Kawa 454 Ltd and an orange vest, that's me

Need some help
Hello everybody,
I'm new on this site and I'm looking for some assistance.
Two years ago I bought a 1986 Yamaha Maxim XJ700. I never had any problems and did basic maintenance on it (by myself - big risk).
A couple of months ago I had a fall
and some where along the main feul line something got disconected. Every time I turn the bike on it licks gas, but only when i'm on main tank; if I'm on reserve, I just can't get it started.
The problem is that I don't have a regular mecanic and no big repair shop wants to tak it because its more then 10 years old :evil: .
I'm looking for an enthusiast bike mechanic with references to put my baby back on the road.
Any advise will be very appreciated.

You don't hapen to have the blue/gray Yamaha I see at Michael's most Sundays? I always see a little blue 650/700-ish Yama Cafe racer, but no rider. The wife loves that bike
I don't know any local repair guys (Raleigh/Durham) that I really like yet. Matison Motorsports in Raleigh has good sales guys, but I am not impressed with their parts department (haven't had their mechanics do anything for me), but they do (IIRC) service Yamaha. There is also Triangle Cycles in Durham (15/501, north of I-40 near Millenium Hyundai/Kia/something-else/something-else/etc/etc). They seem ok, but I have had no service there. I know they sell Yama, and probably do service as well.

You might check ebay for a repair manual as well. I got an old Clymer guide for my '86 Kawa EN450, and it seems better than most of the car books of the same type. You might also look on Cycle Trader - they have a parts search that shows diagrams of bike parts and how they fit together. Doesn't really explain repair, but will show you all those mystery parts you didn't know about. You can search for manufcturer parts by make/model/year at: http://cycletrader.bikebandit.com/parts ... _id~CT.asp. I just went there and saw they had the '86 XJ700S.

Thanks for all the websites; I'll check them out for sure.
No, I'm not the one with blue and gray bike; although my bike is navy sparkly blue (I don't know how else to describe it).
Because of the lick I haven't been riding for the last 4-6 months. Now spring/sumer is here and I'm dying. Everybody at work who has a motorcycle is enjoying the easy rides during sunset after a hard week of work, and I have to get on my car, ggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Yesterday I finally found a Yamaha dealer not to far away from my house that agreed to take a look at my bike and see if they can check-it in for diagnosis. The bad side of that is that I have to rent a u-haul (don't have the trailer to attach to my care) and the "see if we can take it" will cost me $140. We'll see what happens. I have it scheduled for next Tuesday.
I bought the oficial maintenance manual from Ebay, but the pictures aren't that great and there are many technical terms that I just don't get. Besides, I might brake a nail... tee hee hee.

Greetings from the Triangle
New to the board and new to bikes too...so new in fact, I haven't even taken the MSF course (signed up for a July session). I am planning on a Kawasaki Ninja EX250 (preferably used) for my first bike, as I'd like to survive my first few rides!
I have lived in every vertex of the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill for those of you not from the middle of NC), and am currently living in RTP.

New to the site here and back new to riding after several years without a bike. I bought a new Road Star a couple weeks ago and so far love it. I live in Marion so I have been riding highway 80 or down around Lake Lure just to wind down after work. I am getting the bike serviced today but plan on hitting the BRP tomorrow.
