That red and black TZR looks sweet. And if you order it off the internet you don't have to worry about getting the right size because you can get it in the same size as your other Shoei.

Just realized I'm sort of out of the loop. Was your old helmet stolen with your bike or something?

And also, not all helmets (even from the same company) fit exactly alike. All the Arai models fit a lil differently. Try on whatever it is you're gonna buy!

Also, you can get brand new helmets off of ebay pretty cheap. I know people will gripe and such but stick with an ebay store and figure out the build date and you'll be good to go. Saw a brand new HJC AC-12 for $139 on there earlier today, seems like a really nice helmet, and almost every shop around you is going to carry HJC so you can go try one on.

Also, the Suomy Ventura is no longer made, might be hard to find replacement parts/visors for it. Stick with something that's current.

yeah it was stolen w/ the bike along w/ my gloves. insurance said they'll only cover the helmet which is not so bad since the gloves i got was on sale so i got it cheap.

and thanks for the info regarding the ventura being discontinued already.

No prob. Their new helmet that's going to replace the Ventura looks really sweet...but it's not much less than the Spec-1R. Doesn't help us poor folks a'tall :P

saw another shark helmet that i like...

normally, i don't wanna get a replica helmet but this Muggeridge replica really looks cool.

before some of you jump me again, i do consider its specs and not just looks.

so looking at the specs... do you think it is good enough? it doesn't specify if it's DOT approved.

I don't even get the difference between the different brands, they'll all protect your head about the same right?

Anyway, I ordered my helmet online, without trying it on first, and it fit just fine. If it hadn't fit, I would have just returned it for another size. I don't think there's anything wrong with verm's helmet choice, I just think some of you are trying to find an excuse to call him a squid or a troll.

Depends. To a certain extent, yes, they will all do alot. But then there's the "how hard should a helmet be" debate. Most of the really high priced helmets you see are (imho) too hard and can be a bit of a hinderance in low energy crashed.

All helmets are going to be drastically better for you than wearing no helmet at all, I don't think there's anyone in the world that will argue that point (well, other than a squid who thinks that the helmet limits vision...or something) and really once you get above a certain point you're just shelling out extra $$ for features like better airflow, lighter design, funky graphics etc.

Take Arai...Arai makes a great helmet. They've got a huge fan following. But what makes an Arai helmet so good that they can charge 3.5x what you have to pay for a brand new HJC? Well, there's the label on there that says Arai, that's a part of it. That Snell M2000 sticker costs a bit. Then there's the idea that it's an Arai helmet, a helmet that people have come to love and trust. If I built the exact same helmet but called it a Squiddy brand, no one would buy it even though it was the exact same lid. Reputation has alot to do with helmet price. It's got "better" air flow than other helmets, it's "lighter" and "more comfortable" (most of those are personal preferences).

Really, as long as a helmet is DOT certified anything you pay above that is for novelties. Is an Arai helmet worth 3.5 times a HJC? That's your call. Personally if I could afford one I'd buy one simply because I believe that Arai is one of the few companies left that is truely more concerned with protecting your grey matter than making money.

And Verm, I hear that Shark (supposedly) makes great helmets, although I have no personal experience with them. That helmet does look pretty sweet, although I'd go with performance over looks in that area. I believe that Shark is a British company (I may be wrong) and I think that parts are a lil hard to come by, although if there's a shop or online store near you that carries 'em then I suppose you're probably pretty safe. I know that no shops around here carry Shark products.
