I have read "high winds" but still have a question

#1 Unread post by LoriAnn »

I got my bike around the first of April and have rode about 300 miles, but I still fell like I am going to get blown off at anytime  ! I want to be able to relaxe some, but I fell like I have had a workout everyday :kicking:,
What can I do? Or what am I doing wrong?

Do you have a windshield? When I started riding my bike didn't have a windshield. I always felt like I was "hanging on for dear life" if I was going over 40 mph. A windshield will help tremendously if you don't already have one. Good luck!

A windshield will do the trick, or if you cant afford one, go to the gym and work the Abs and back. This approach will take a few weeks to show results but it will work for you. Heck while you are there you could do a little more and impress the ladies......

If you don't like windshields, (I don't really care for them) check out a flyscreen. They are much smaller and will also help the aerodynamics of your bike. Mine reduces wind to the body about 50% and isn't as obtrusive as a windshield. Cheaper too.

I'd suggest the flyscreen route as well. Windshields are nice, but if you live in a warm climate, you're going to hate them on hot days.

Also ... you can relax a little on the bike ... Honest! :) My bike doesn't have any kind of wind protection at all, and I'm fine for up to about 75/80mph. If you feel like you've just had a workout after riding, it means you're holding on a little too tight, which isn't a good habit to get into.

So anyway ...after all that babbling ... give a flyscreen a try

I rode around for years with a bike battery in my back pack to keep me on the bike. I know why? but it started out when I was looking for another bike and most people didnt have a good battery so I brought my own. I got so use to having the extra weight on me and I didnt get blown around as much I just left it in there. I finally got a fly screen.

Thanks to all for the information! I will check on the Flysreen. I don't want a windshield because my husband already says that my truck looks like a girl truck and almost like a Grandpa truck, so I don't want to give him anything to say about my bike! I will try not to hold on so tight and see if that helps too! Thanks to all of you!!!

After only 300 miles, you may still be building muscles. You will feel improvement as your neck gets stronger. Still, I put a cafe/bikini style faring on and it made a world of difference at 70 mph and up. That was where mine started to get uncomfortable for me...your results may vary... 8)

You sure she'd wanna do that?

I say you wait a bit and see if the muscles catch up. Beyond 60mph it does get much harder to hang on, but if you just relax you should be fine. Keep a death grip on the handlebars and your hands will numb out pretty frequently.

Agreed. I found in high winds it actually feels harder to hold on when my body is tense. By relaxing, the only part of my body that has to work is the neck.
