Suzuki GR650, good deal?

Hey guys, I'm completely new to motorcycles and saw an ad today for a suzuki gr650. I want to know if it is a good deal and if I should buy it. It has 7 thousand miles, in excellent condition, has 2 helmets and the manual included in the price. The cost is 800 bucks. Let me know whenever you can. Thanks so much.

$800 is a good deal BUT

The bike has low miles. It's going to probably need ALOT of work to get it back into shape. The gas tank probably has rust, the fuel lines are probably shot, the steering head bearings might be notched from sitting, carbs prob have to be cleaned, fork seals shot, might need tires, and I could go on.

this work could easily rack up another $300-$400 if you take it to a mechanic .... Just an FYI. You should have it checked by a mechanic before you buy, jsut to be sure.

Oh wow. Well how do I go about getting a mechanic to check it out? Do I just take it to a motorcycle dealership or car dealership or something? How much does it cost usually for a mechanic to inspect a motorcycle? I have never bought a used vehicle or motorcycle before so I have no clue how to do this. Thanks.

Ask the seller if he can take it to a mechanic, or ask a mechanic if he can come look at a bike ... Just gotta ask

Would u happen to know how much it would cost for the mechanic to look at it? Am I supposed to go with the seller when he takes it to the mechanic or can he just go by himself and bring back a paper saying it was inspected (and that it does or doesn't have problems)? Is he supposed to pay for the inspection or am I? Thanks so much, all this information is really helping.

Well, to be honest with you, every situation varies depending on the players. I don't guess you know a bike mechanic, so having him look over it for a pack of beer probably won't work for you. I think your best course of action is to discuss this with the owner of the bike and find out the best way to get the bike checked out. You never know, he may have just done a full rebuild on the thing and have the reciepts to probve it.

You could ask the seller to bring it to a shop and provide a saftey report. You may have to pay 40 or 50 bucks for the saftey, and if it was my bike I was selling, I would pay for the safety, but ask that if they do buy the bike, they reimburse (or add it to the cost of the bike)
