so i live in florida and its illegal but, yesterday i was driving around maybe doing 45ish and passing this turning lane that was 2 the left (about 6 cars in line to turn left) and all of a suden some guy decides he needs to go straight i guess and cuts out right in front of me, well to my right was a friggin semi but i would never had time to stop so i went right between the 2. was kinda creepy because either of those 2 drivers came over slightly on me it would have sucked.

but i survived :) and definatly dont know how people in cali and such do that.

Well the cagers in Cali are more used to people lane splitting so I think (*opens the door for correction*) that the cagers are a bit more accomodating for a lane split and they'll give you a bit more room.

some (most?) will accomodate... others have hostility issues and will try to crowd.

Yeah, out here in California as long as you're not going super fast between cars, people are cool about the lane splitting. Especially on the highway, some cagers even move over for you...its kind of expected because there are a lot of motorcycle cops that do it all the time. Its nice not getting stuck in traffic...putting along at 25-30mph is better than stop-go!

About the only time I feel comfortable enough to split lanes here is when I want to pull up to the front of the line at a red traffic signal. I've tapped a few mirrors too with my stiletto tips too.

I dont have the balls yet to split traffic in cali, but i did see a guy getting pulled over for doing it. i asked a deputy i work with why he may have gotten a ticket, and he told me that technically lane sharing is legal, but when you ride over the bumps(or the lines), then you are taking up two lanes which can be a ticket. he said only the guys who are jerks look for us to do that. just FYI.

I thought it was legal in California.

Lane splitting around here will make you end up as part of the door moulding on a Chevy Pick it up truck... :frusty:

Unless the Cager is my wife when we lived in Cali- she will intentionally block you in so you either wont go between her and the other car or you have to stop and back out. Nothing I have said to her will change her opinion either. When she drives I bring a book to read so I dont have to see death coming.

(edit) This is espically true on the 14 and 405 Freeways (edit)
