The buy Ameica "mantra" I hear from Harley riders (with there japanese front ends and more) has the same logic as the "Loud pipies save lives" sticker on the back of a Clamshell or worse helmetless rider.

HD= Merchandising No more no less. HD wants to be the Rolls Royce WITHOUT the associated quality...A pretty place to be....Money for nothing
Actually even though Honda owns stock in Showa, Showa is a company started in America...So even though I can bash on Harley's for not being genuinly american today, Showa isn't my best example.

My feelings on Harley are readily put for all to read on the "Harley Davidson Dealerships" thread...

But Harley Riders are another lot together...I can have tons of quarells with Harley, and think the riders are not as bright as they could be, As long as they don't spout off shiat and look down on others for what they ride...their fine by me. I have met plenty of HD riders and although many are too wrapped up in the image, there are still plenty of great HD riders our there.

Not at all Sev... I have a great sense of humor. But where's the line between poking fun and bashing? This thread wasn't about poking fun. It was yet another jab at Harleys.

Harleys like any top companies wear a bullseye on their backs.

It's competition and that's a good thing. We live in a capitalistic society with the freedom to choose because this diversity exists. The top manufacturer of anything gets majority of the jabs. It's natural.

Bike companies like Suzuki is small time compared with Harley. Suzuki (motorcycle division) has very little identity besides its bikes. This leaves very little controversy. Its culture is non existant compared with the history of a company like Harley Davidson.

Why get all lit up whenever a comment is made about Harleys, or any other brand? I understand that after listening to it after a while, it gets old. But what I don't understand is why have such a strong alligiance over what car you drive or the motorcycle you own. The experience in itself is what we all oughta be focusing on. In this case - motorcycling. The feeling just can't be explained. All of the equipment is there to enhance that feeling - nothing more.

The sheer marketing in capitalistic nations is overwhealming to say the least. Here in the U.S., there's badging on everything. So much that it clouds our way of thinking. The arguments that I've heard through the years about Harleys vs. Japs is symptomatic of of this hype of marketing. Don't fall to it. Don't get over emotional than what it's worth.

It's the experience. And those that never experienced the ride, will be ignorant and buy into the hype. Those that know the "experience", we don't need a badge on a product to know what it takes to get our fix.

The ride - that's what gets us high. Ride on!

Mikeydude-

I'll defend Harley's with ya. I like em. And one day I hope to get one when my finances improve. That will probably be after the kids are through college, and seeing as the the oldest is in 1st grade, it might be awhile.

Anywho, I could tell right off that this guy was just trolling. So I didn't say anything.

You know, of the 50,000 emoticons the forum has got to insert into messages, I can't believe there isn't one that is holding a sign that says "Don't feed the trolls".
A dog had his chain reduced one link at a time, every few days, until his chain was so short he could barely move. He never resisted because he was conditioned to the loss of his freedom slowly, over time. Are we in this country becoming like the dog?

I never said I have anything against Harleys. I dont care for them personally, but I know others love them.

Only thing about the Harley scene that irks me are the rubs who look down at non-harley riders. I know a lot of great people who ride harleys, and I know some total jackasses that ride harleys.

Cliff notes: "OMG my image brand is better than yours" "Unh uh, american bikes suck" "your japanese piece of "poo poo" sucks worse" :peep:

I agree with FireGuzzi, all bikes are nice, though i like yellow 599's. And if i don't like a bike, i don't bash it or say it sucks "O Ring". And a bikes brand name shouldn't ruin ALL the bikes for it. Sure I've heard that Suzuki dirtbikes are gutless and the 2006 GSX-R 1000's fall apart at the welds. That's not going to stop me from wanting a SV1000S some day. Or just because i think Kawasaki's ZX-14 is ugly as sin, doesn't stop me from wanting a KX125 to call my own. And sure, I may not like the looks of Sportsters, but I've ridden a Road King, and all I gotta say is damn, that was a nice ride.

You people gotta stop with the hate.

Bright in what aspect? Can you tear down motors and rebuild them? Can you build a house out of an empty, sandy lot?

Whoa , wait a minute here .......... I am not a sport bike person . I know you may find that hard to believe ......
However the ZX14 is one hell of an awesome machine . I will guarantee you that if you ever get on one and twist the wick , your O-Ring will pucker shut .

I never said it was bad, just that i think it's ugly as all hell! Though my choice of the uber-big-bore crotch rockets is the K1200S.
