Explain something
Why is it that someone sees 1 headlight they "assume" its alright to pull out in front of them? I was in front of a biker oh about a 1/4 mile. This person pulls right out in front of the biker who has to go into the other lane (no oncoming traffic thank goodness) to avoid nailing that person. WTF why cant people pay attention to whats going on around them? I dunno I dont ride a bike and I dont think its that hard to see them/know they are around you. I guess thats the only thing that makes me nervous about wanting to ride a bike. People that assume.

I agree with the above post, most cagers won't interpret one headlight as a bike, especially if there are cars around it, the light just kinda get lost in all the other lights. Glad the guy in your story was able to avoid an accident.

Yesterday I pulled into the parking lot and was moving along one of the outer boundaries, and some lady pulled out of one of the rows between the stalls in front of me. Left turn loser.
She came around the corner got about 1/2 way out and saw me, then literally jumped in her seat when she saw me. I had lots of time to avoid her, but it was pretty funny and scary to see her jump. I'm hoping she'll take that lesson to heart.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

i dunno i guess i can just tell that its a bike and not a car most of the time so to me I can just tell. just like a jeep people pull out in front of them all the time cause the lights are "too close together".

When my bike gets fixed, I'm going to go all-out on making it visible. I'll put a bright headlight with a modulator, where all sorts of sparly flourescent clothes or something. I may even repaint the bike orange or something.

That's exactly why I ride the biggest bike I can afford...Royal Star Venture. A blind person could see it coming a mile away.
Well, it's one of the reasons.
this is another reason I believe we ought to be able to mount 50 cal machine guns on the handle bars.
That would convince the cagers to stay outta the way...

I've been driving cages for approx 17 yrs. Never once had a close call with a bike while driving my cage. If I can see bikes others should be able to see them as well. I don't buy all this one headlite is harder to see krap. Or the one headlite is harder to guage approaching speed krap. If something is heading towards you wait & see what it is first before pulling out.
Now after driving my bike around I've come to the conclusion that people actually don't care. Or Maybe they just hate bikes cuz their neighbor has some loud a$$ bike and cranks it up at 3am to go out and get smokes.
I've actually heard of condo associations that ban bikes on their property. Whats that about ?

I agree, alot of them probably don't care. If they happen to hit the bike, there's not a real big chance they'll get hurt, or die, it will just be an inconvenience. If you're a biker, you sure as hell don't want to get in an accident, because it "procreating" hurts like hell.
