So true. I ride a BMW R80RT, which was one of the (admittedly less common in the US) police bikes of the 1980s. My bike has flip-out driving lights in the fairing, and a bunch of gaudy green retroreflective stickers plastered all over it. With those lights flipped out, but not on, and wearing my white helmet / black riding suit, people get the freak out of my way! I honestly think that *they* think I'm a cop.XM23 wrote:For some reason, cagers seem to have no problem seeing police motorcycles. See one around here and watch all the cager brake lights go on.
The cagers seem to perceive cop bikes as a threat to them which they don't seem to extrapolate to all bikes.
When I wear the blue helmet and put the lights in the fairing, I'm just another invisble motorcycle. Go figure.

in Michigan you get a repair ticket if you dont have both headlights working. You dont fix it within 10 days its $200 plus the cost of fixing your light.Drake wrote:There's a lot of cars around here with one one headlight .. but that's just laziness ..

Maybe that's the fix for the problem. We've all got to start riding big white bikes with large fairings and bags.

I've been driving for over 27 yrs. and have never had a close call with a bike. Some people are just lazy drivers who don't pay attention to what they're doing or who's around them.MrGompers wrote:I've been driving cages for approx 17 yrs. Never once had a close call with a bike while driving my cage. If I can see bikes others should be able to see them as well. I don't buy all this one headlite is harder to see krap. Or the one headlite is harder to guage approaching speed krap. If something is heading towards you wait & see what it is first before pulling out.
Now after driving my bike around I've come to the conclusion that people actually don't care. Or Maybe they just hate bikes cuz their neighbor has some loud a$$ bike and cranks it up at 3am to go out and get smokes.
I've actually heard of condo associations that ban bikes on their property. Whats that about ?

This is really weird. I was reading more proficient motorcycling and this came up. Some guy did an unscientific experiment with 3 different bikes & gear.XM23 wrote:For some reason, cagers seem to have no problem seeing police motorcycles. 1st bike was white & he used bright colored gear.
2nd bike was black & he used dark colored gear.
3rd bike was black & used gear that looked similar to a cops gear.
Conclusion, bikes 1 & 2 didn't make a difference.
3rd bike did make a difference and no one messed with him.
The cagers perceived #3 bike as a threat I guess.
We should all start wearing gear similar to cops.
